Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland

Diadhuit Suicide Prevention Ireland is a voluntary initiative aimed at addressing the issue of suicide in the North Cork area. Set up and operational since 2008, Diadhuit differs from other voluntary services addressing suicide as the service provided through Diadhuit is a clinical therapeutic first response service which is available on a no fee basis.

Diadhuit is totally dedicated to ‘service delivery’. Referrals come via GP’s, Consultant Psychiatrists, and Hospital Consultants, thus placing Diadhuit right where it will be most effective, on the front line of service delivery.

Diadhuit’s role is to

  • offer a valid alternative to suicide by providing people with thoughts of
suicide a safe place to share and learn about their
    situation/condition and its dangers,
  • provide insight into the causes and to explore valid options and ways out of their malaise.
  • help participants aware of the devastating impact that suicide would have upon their family, friends and wider community
  • to identify and liaise with existing supports in the community and work in compliment with the medical profession and/or other support services.

The Diadhuit service is operated by professional Psychotherapists, who have the support of GPs, Consultant Psychiatrists and other health professionals covering the North Cork region.

The board members and directors of Diadhuit are represented by a cross section of the local community, each of whom bring their own valued experience on a voluntary basis.
